The Mayor of London has pledged £400,000 to roll out a 20mph speed limit across the borough.

Boris Johnson has confirmed Transport for London will give Haringey Borough Council the money as part of the capital's £147.8million local implementation plan.

However, a council spokesman said the council is still consulting on the proposed speed limit and no decision will be taken until the new year.

He added that the authority was happy to receive the support from Mr Johnson.

The proposed limit, which has previously been rejected twice by the authority, will be applied to all council-maintained roads in Haringey.

But it would not apply to major routes managed by TfL, such as Archway Road, Great Cambridge Road and parts of Tottenham High Road.
