Tottenham MP David Lammy helps launch Eve Appeal’s Make Time for Tea 2014 campaign
Some people run a marathon or shave their head to raise awareness in the fight against cancer - but the MP for Tottenham simply wants you to have a tea party.
David Lammy helped start the Eve Appeal’s Make Time for Tea 2014 campaign which will run during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in March.
He took tea with the cancer charity’s chief executive Robert Marsh and Sharon Hodgson MP, chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on ovarian cancer.
Mr Lammy said: "I lost my dear mother and grandmother to ovarian cancer and so am delighted to help The Eve Appeal to support this important event.
“I ask as many people as possible to host a tea party to raise awareness and funds to fight this devastating disease."
According to the charity, more than 7,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year and 70 per cent of them will die. However, if diagnosed in the early stages, 90 per cent could survive.
The Eve Appeal has invited people across the country to host tea parties to raise awareness of the disease.
Ms Hodgson said: "For many years I have campaigned on behalf of the 3,500 women who die each year from ovarian cancer.
“I urge you all to support The Eve Appeal’s campaign and hold a tea party with your friends or colleagues. Have fun and make a difference."
