Teenagers in Haringey have maintained last year's record-breaking GCSE pass rates.

Across the borough, 63.6 percent of pupils scored five A* - C grades including English and saths, beating the 2013 national average of 58.6 percent.

Councillor Claire Kober, leader of Haringey Council, said the results were evidence of the "first rate" education in the borough.

She said: “We’re committed to meeting the ambitious targets we’ve set ourselves in the Outstanding for All agenda and delivering the best possible education for all students in Haringey.

"With all of our secondary schools rated either 'good' or 'outstanding' by Ofsted, it’s no surprise to see Haringey students once again beating national averages.

"I’d like congratulate all pupils and teachers on these excellent results.”

Patrick Cozier, chairman of the Haringey Secondary Headteachers Forum and headteacher at Highgate Wood School, said: “All of the Haringey secondary schools are proud of their students’ achievements.

"GCSE results day is a very joyous occasion in our borough as it is a fantastic opportunity for our students, staff, and a few parents, to celebrate together.

"They have worked tremendously hard, some of them through quite difficult circumstances, yet the many positive news stories from across the authority and wonderful achievements of Haringey children show that true hard work and perseverance pays off.”
