A man shouted to his friend to 'get the axe' when violence flared at a pedestrian crossing.
Police were called at 3.28pm on Monday to reports of a fight in Crouch Hall Road, Crouch End outside a branch of NatWest Bank.
Two men were using the crossing outside the bank when they got into a fight with another two men in a car.
A fist fight began and one of the men pulled out a hammer from a bucket of tools with another being heard to shout “get the axe” to his friend as the fight continued.
Men were seen brandishing the weapons at each other during the incident in the middle of Crouch End.
A witness who did not want to be named said: “It was mental, there was blood trickling down the forehead of one of the geezers.
“When one screamed about the axe people were standing around shocked at what was going on.
“Next thing I know there were cars, people and police cars flying all over the place.”
The London Ambulance Service attended the scene but those with injuries who remained at the scene refused treatment.
There are no arrests at this stage but Camden Police are investigating the incident.
