A housing association is recruiting volunteers to help people get online.

The L&Q housing association has launched a three-year, volunteer-led programme to help its residents become more digitally proficient and get them online.

Funded by a £168,000 grant from the group’s charity arm the L&Q Foundation, the scheme is aiming to recruit 150 digital champions.

Their goal will be to help people living in L&Q housing with online banking, using search engines, accessing government services and connecting with family and friends using social media.

Mark Rowe, financial inclusion manager at L&Q, said: “To be online our residents need and want regular, one-to-one personal support and having a team of trained and enthused digital champions will enable us to provide that.

“Through our existing membership of the digital champions network we have seen the huge potential of giving digital champion volunteers the right support.

“We are now much looking forward to working with Digital Unite to take this activity to the next level and beyond.”
