Children will perform the world premier of music inspired by Handel and themselves at a concert to mark the end of a three-year education project.

Pupils from Rhodes Avenue Primary in Rhodes Avenue, Wood Green, will perform Il Pastorale, l'Urbano e il Suburbano, a piece created by award-winning ensemble The Brook Street Band.

Inspiration for the piece was taken from children involved in the project from Haringey and Suffolk and it will receive its world premiere at Snape Maltings arts complex in Suffolk.

Tatty Theo, founder and artistic director of The Brook Street Band, said: “Handel had a real genius for expressing emotion.

“There are so many facets of this fun-loving character that really resonate with the young people we have worked with. Presented in this way, his music has an almost effortless ability to transcend continents, centuries and generations.

“His music is the perfect vehicle for engaging young listeners as they begin their journeys as singers, players and composers – particularly in an urban environment where English is not always the first language.”

The debut performance will take place on July 10 at the Britten Studio of the Hoffmann Building in Snape Maltings, Suffolk.

Mrs Witham, head teacher at Rhodes Avenue said: “We consider our school to be really fortunate to be working with The Brook Street Band on this fabulous project and the children have benefitted hugely from their involvement in the project so far.”
