RUBBISH and recycling collections are due to be resumed tomorrow when the council takes Enterprise collectors off road gritting duties.

Haringey gritters have been hard at work since the weekend and have used 750 tons of salt.

Now a huge gap remains where the council’s salt pile once was as this picture shows.

Cllr Brian Haley, cabinet member for environment and conservation, reassured residents that despite heavy use over the past few days, Haringey was not about to run out of grit.

He said: “We subscribe to detailed weather forecasts and try to plan ahead where possible. During the past few days we have used around 750 tons of salt and we still have around 800 tons stored.

"We prioritised major roads and particularly vulnerable sites, and Haringey traffic was running well on most major routes as early as Monday morning. We are now looking at third tier local or side roads but we must keep monitoring the major routes for ice.”

Cllr Haley said gritting would continue as long as necessary and the council was expecting a further delivery of salt next week.
