Marks and Spencer has announced plans to extend its Simply Food store in Muswell Hill.
It will allow the high street chain in The Broadway to increase the range of products it currently sells.
But the extension will mean that Crocodile Antiques, whose lease is held by M&S, will have to be relocated.
Owner Chris Ostwald who has run the shop for 15 years said he was unable to comment at this stage.
Anthony Shapland, M&S project director, said: "Our Muswell Hill store has always been very popular and we're delighted to be making substantial improvements to the site.
"When completed, the store will offer an improved customer experience, further boosting M&S's presence on The Broadway."
Mr Shapland said the proposed project would not start until a new location for the shop had been found.
Six new flats will also be built above the extension and the existing three flats will be refurbished as part of the development.
The extenstion itself will cover 4,000 square feet.
Discussions will be held with residents over the next few weeks.
