DRUNKS who have been causing misery to Seven Sisters residents will now be moved on under new police powers.

Following complaints from the community about people lingering in the streets getting drunk, using drugs, fighting and urinating, Haringey police have introduced a dispersal order under Section 30 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act.

This means groups of people causing anti-social behaviour can now be moved on by constables and community support officers.

The order covers includes Ermine Road, High Road, Tottenham, and the surrounding areas.

It comes into effect on midday on August 24 2009 and is in place until 11.59am on Wednesday, February 24, 2009.

Sergeant Tom Smyth of Seven Sisters Safer Neighbourhoods team said: "The dispersal order will hopefully have a positive effect and improve the quality of life for those who live in the area."

Police and PCSOs will regularly patrol the dispersal areas throughout the period of the dispersal notice.
