ANTI-WAR MP George Galloway will speak at a meeting in Haringey to mark the anniversary of the 2008/09 conflict in Gaza.

Speakers from Jewish, Muslim and Christian communities will also speak at the event in Wood Green, on Wednesday, February 24.

Mr Galloway, who represents Bethnal Green and Bow, recently led a Viva Palestina aid convoy to the small strip of land that is home to 1.4 million Palestinians.

The outspoken Respect MP founded the charity as a means to collect aid and relief supplies for those living there, three quarters of whom are listed as refugees by the UN.

Keith Flett, chairman of Haringey Trade Unions Council (TUC), said: "A meeting held in January last year about Gaza was the biggest public meeting in Haringey in 2009 and we expect a large turn-out for this anniversary event."

It starts at 7.30pm at St John Vianney Church Hall, in West Green Road, near Turnpike Lane Tube.

The three-week clash between Israel and Hamas began on December 27, 2008, following air strikes on police headquarters in Gaza.

Israeli officials have defended the strikes saying they were in retaliation for a barrage of rockets being fired across the Israel/Gaza border.

More than 1,300 Palestinians, mainly civilians, were killed. A year on, Israel still maintains a blockade restricting supplies to Gaza.
