THE hunt is on in Haringey to find those gardens that make others green with envy.

Haringey in Bloom - which is free to enter - aims to find residents, businesses, schools and voluntary groups whose handiwork brightens up their neighbourhoods.

The Haringey Council-run competition has 12 categories including best front garden, container garden, wildlife front garden, community garden, sheltered housing scheme, sustainable allotment site, greener school grounds award, young gardener, neighbourhood award, business premises, best bloomin' pub, and restaurant.

And, this year, judges will be looking closely at the use of sustainable gardening such as those whose green space attracts wildlife and boosts biodiversity.

Councillor Dilek Dogus, cabinet member designate for adults and community services, said: "Everyone knows that we're one of the greenest boroughs in London.

"This competition is a great way of encouraging local residents and groups to play their part in making the borough even more attractive."

The deadlines for entries or nominations is 5pm on Wednesday, June 30.

Judging will take place during the first week of July. Further details and an application form are at: www.haringey.gov.uk/hib10
