HARINGEY Council now has a statutory duty to respond to all petitions put forward by residents.
The council said it had always followed a policy of answering petitions, but changes in the law mean an acknowledgement within 10 working days.
The council's response will be published on the website.
A petition may now give residents the opportunity to ask questions of council officers about the business of the council.
