A PAIR of vans linked to fly-tipping crimes across the borough are being held hostage by Haringey Council until their owners come forward.

Councillor Nilgun Canver said the town hall would not tolerate people using the area as dumping ground adding the vans would be crushed if no one claimed them.

Both lorries have been caught on CCTV cameras dumping piles of rubbish at different sites across Haringey.

Enforcement officers from the council have made several attempts to contact the owners of the white Ford Transit and a white Volkswagen van but have been unsuccessful.

Ms Canver, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said:"We cannot allow people use this borough as a dumping ground. These vehicles have been used to make a mess in our borough and are residents end up paying for the cost of removing this rubbish."

The owners of the vans have until December 15 to pay outstanding fines.
