A CAMPAIGNER who made the complaint that led to former council leader Charles Adje's misconduct hearing has welcomed the outcome.

Clive Carter, who is a member of the Save Ally Pally campaign, complained nearly 12 months ago after an independent investigation revealed Councillor Adje withheld key information from trustees on the Alexandra Palace Trust Board.

A standards committee hearing that concluded on Thursday ruled Cllr Adje was guilty of misconduct and suspended him for four months, while Labour have also suspended their former leader.

Mr Carter said: “I have mixed feelings – I'm very pleased that he has been found to have broken the code of conduct, but the punishment handed to him is woeful and inadequate.

“In relation to the damage that his conduct caused to us it's risible.

“I will be considering what further action I can take to see that he is held responsible for his actions.”

An independent report into the dispute estimated that losses to the charitable trust that runs the palace were in the region of £1.5 million.

The High Court quashed the leasing of the palace to property developer Firoka, who were given permission to run Alexandra Palace on a 125 year lease in 2007.

The company were evicted by the council in 2008, but during their occupation of the premises, all of the charitable trust's profits were given to the company, on top of expenses.
