A POLITICIAN has hit out at proposed changes to the borders of her constituency set for the next General Election.

Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone said plans by the Independent Boundary Commission to move Stroud Green ward to David Lammy's Tottenham constituency would divide a community.

The proposals published in September also suggest moving the Bowes ward – currently part of David Burrowes' Enfield Southgate constituency – into Hornsey and Wood Green, while Seven Sisters would be moved to Hackney.

Ms Featherstone said: “I love Stroud Green and I've been stomping the streets here forever – I know it like the back of my hand.

“This is a community that associates itself with Crouch End and Muswell Hill in terms of shopping, community organisations and everything else that makes a community.

“The Boundary Commission said it wanted to keep communities together – so for that reason alone I'm hoping it will change its mind.”

The Home Office minister added that there was only one bus linking the two areas – although there are both Tube and Overground services from Finsbury Park and Crouch Hill.

Under plans approved by Parliament in February, the number of MPs across the UK will be cut by 50 to 600, in a bid to save £12 million and make the number of voters in each constituency more equal.
