THE DEATHS of two men who attended club nights at Alexandra Palace at the weekend are unrelated and are a “tragic coincidence”, police believe.

Officers originally thought that the men, aged 20 and 21, who died in hospital on Sunday morning, took a contaminated form of MDMA - the chemical name for ecstasy.

But investigations have revealed that the two got their drugs from entirely different sources, with both likely to have suffered extreme reactions, with police describing the deaths as “a tragic coincidence”.

The two fatalities sparked a London-wide alert, with the Metropolitan Police and the Health Protection Agency alerting clubbers and hospitals after fears of contamination.

Officers are waiting for the results of further toxicology tests before formal identification takes place – with inquests due to open at North London Coroners Court tomorrow morning.

The 21-year-old is thought to have attended an all-night party called Bass Culture, which started on Friday and continued into Saturday.

Billed as the biggest bass music all-nighter taking place in the country this year, it featured 30 drum and bass, dubstep, hip hop and electro acts playing across three giant stages.

The 20-year-old is believed to have attended a night called Epic, which ran into Sunday. Acts performing at the event included top DJs Eric Prydz, Pete Tong and John Digweed, and the band Death in Vegas.
