A new Women’s Institute in Stroud Green is looking for members.

The WI, which opened in December, will teach its members how to make free chocolates in its first skill-based session on Tuesday.

Helen Parton, a member of the WI, said: "The WI is a really great opportunity to meet people in the local area and find out about stuff that you would not naturally find out about."

She spoke of the "Kirstie Allsopp effect", which is encouraging younger members to join women’s institutes, learn new skills and meet people living nearby. President of Stroud Green WI, Annie Martin, said: "I wanted to bring together women who are interested in all sorts of activities from craft to cookery, local history to outdoor pursuits and much, much more. "I’d encourage anyone who’s interested to pop down to our next meeting to find out what we’re all about.

"The WI has really changed and is now a modern movement where you can learn new skills and enjoy new experiences in a relaxed, friendly environment."

About 15 members aged 30 to 40 are currently signed up to the WI, which meets on the second Tuesday of every month.

Anyone is welcome to attend the session.

Tomorrow’s meeting will take place at The Hideaway, Stroud Green School at 7.30pm.
