A 15-year-old boy has been found guilty of stabbing a young man to death in a row over conkers.

Steven Grisales, 21, was murdered by the teenager, who is from Edmonton, in Silver Street in Edmonton on August 31 last year.

He was on his way to Silver Street train station after he had dropped off shopping for his grandmother he had picked up just hours before.

The guilty verdict was handed to the teen, who cannot be named for legal reasons, after a five week trial at the Old Bailey.

The youth, who was with a group of friends at the time, had started throwing conkers at Steven as he made himself to the station.

Steven confronted the youths but the 15-year-old boy produced a knife and stabbed him once in the heart.

Tragically, the victim was due to have a meeting with Westminster University the day after he was murdered as he was hoping to gain a scholarship in architecture.

A good Samaritan stepped in as soon as he saw what was going on, and the 15-year-old fled from the scene.

Despite his best efforts, this was not enough to save Steven’s life and he died in the Royal London Hospital on September 1.

Senior investigating officer, detective inspector Richard Beadle, of the homicide and serious crime command said: “Steven did no more than stand up to an unruly youth and for that he has lost his life.

“The defendant has shown no remorse and has continually lied about his involvement.

"Fortunately the jury saw through this dishonest charade. His arrogance and contempt for others belies his age.

"A moment of madness by an armed individual resulted in the most tragic of circumstances. Steven Grisales should be alive today."
