Enfield’s golden post box is an “inspiration” for people in the borough, according to an Enfield politician.

A post box in Enfield Town was painted gold on Wednesday to celebrate the Olympic achievement of Enfield-born Charlotte Dujardin, who won two gold medals this week for team and individual dressage.

Leader of Enfield Council, Doug Taylor, said: “This gold pillar box is a tribute to their achievement and an inspiration for the whole borough.

“We have a fine sports tradition in the borough and the future for the young people coming up through the London Youth Games and our own boroughwide events is looking golden.

"Enfield is delighted with its golden pillar box and the achievements of all Team GB."

Royal Mail painted the post box gold on Wednesday in Colman Parade in Southbury Road, less than 24 hours after Dujardin claimed gold for Britain with team mates Carl Hester and Laura Bechtolsheimer.

A second post box is due to be painted gold today in Newent in Gloucestershire, where Dujardin trains with Olympic horse Valegro.

The second shimmering post box will celebrate yesterday’s gold, which she won in individual dressage with an outstanding 90.089 points.

Cllr Taylor congratulated Dujardin and Enfield's Ben Maher, who claimed gold on Monday for Great Britain in team show jumping.
