Two teenagers arrested by the Metropolitan Police Commissioner have both been charged for running off without paying their taxi driver.

An unnamed 17-year-old and 19-year-old Charlie Mcdonagh, of Palmers Green, were both arrested by Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe in August.

Sir Bernard, the most senior police officer in the UK, was in Tottenham High Road recording an interview with BBC radio.

As he was speaking to journalists, a taxi driver pulled up and called for help.

Four men jumped out of the car and ran off. The officer with the commissioner chased them and arrested a 17-year-old inside Bruce Grove station.

Sir Bernard got into the taxi with the driver to look for suspects by car, before returning to the High Road and getting into a police car.

The commissioner spotted 19-year-old Mr Mcdonagh in Napier Road, where he was arrested on suspicion of theft and making off without payment.

Later that evening, a 47-year-old man who visited the police station to act as a guardian for the 17-year-old was found to be wanted by police on suspicion of theft in connection with a separate offence. He was also arrested.

The 17-year-old has been bailed to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on October 16.

Mr Mcdonagh has been bailed to appear before the same court on October 14.
