A teacher and school finance officer are giving up their jobs to work on a new app for supply teachers.

Luke O’Dwyer, finance officer at South Harringay Junior School, and Raj Kotecha, deputy headteacher at South Harringay Infant School, are launching www.supplyteachersonline.com, an online platform for supply teachers.

The pair aim to save schools money by bypassing the agencies that currently charge fees to pair supply teachers with schools.

Mr O’Dwyer said: “I got talking to some of the supply teachers about how much they were being paid, and obviously I know how much the school is paying the agency. It all seemed a bit mad.

“We’re hoping to charge less money, and give teachers more of the wage. We want to save the schools money in the long run.”

The pair are developing the service with the help of a software engineer, and hope to launch it in January 2015.
