GPs in Haringey cancelled a forthcoming public meeting due to planned NHS strikes.

Ambulance crews and hospital staff were due to stage mass walkouts across the country on Thursday in a row over pay which is expected to put significant pressure on health services.

As a result members of the Haringey Clinical Commissioning Group, decided to abandon their Governing Body meeting due to be held on the same day in the Cypriot Centre on Earlham Grove and remain in their practices.

Dr Sherry Tang, GP and Haringey CCG chairman, said: “Our GPs felt that it would be wrong to spend three or four hours in a meeting on a day when the health service is likely to be under real pressure because of industrial action.

“We want to make sure we are around to help patients and the health system cope.

“We’re sorry to anyone who was planning to come to our governing body meeting on Thursday, but hope that they understand the reason for our decision to cancel.”
