Children and teenagers at a Tottenham performing arts company were delighted to receive a surprise donation to support their work this week.

The cast of Haringey Shed's most recent production, ‘The Wishmaker’, were visited by Global Radio’s ‘Make Some Noise’ charity who presented them with a cheque for £4,970.

Haringey Shed will use the money to put on 5-day performing arts residentials for young people with and without disabilities.

Global Radio, who own radio stations including Heart, Capital FM, Classic FM, Smooth and LBC, have been fundraising across all their stations to support disadvantaged children.

The huge cheque was handed over at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre as the cast finished ‘The Wishmaker’.

Jim Shepley, executive director of Haringey Shed, said: “The 5-day programme will give young people access to three days of activities that will develop confidence, team skills and communication through a mix of performing arts and adventure activities.”

“This is a fantastic surprise and a great finish to our show. We are very grateful to Global. As a small charity we rely ever more on the contributions of individuals, corporate and trust funds, without their support we couldn’t survive,” he added.

Global director Emma Bradley said: “Make Some Noise is delighted to support Haringey Shed. We’re huge fans of the work that they do, and several members of the charity team and Globals’ presenters have visited Haringey Shed over the last year and have been inspired by the work they are doing. We’re so pleased that they’ve been part of our inaugural campaign to make some noise and change young lives.”

Haringey Shed patron David Lammy, parliamentary candidate for Tottenham, said: “Haringey Shed is one of Tottenham’s greatest cultural assets – helping young people from across the constituency flourish and reach their full potential in this important art form.

“Over the past five years, austerity has sadly damaged the arts immensely, yet it is heartening to see wonderful organisations like Haringey Shed thriving in our community.”
