A GROUP of volunteers from an engine museum in south Tottenham have received recognition for their dedication.
The Markfield Beam Engine and Museum, in Markfield Road, received the Best Team Contribution award at a special ceremony aboard HMS Belfast.
The hardworking team consists Ken Brereton, Richard Jacobs, Fred Clarke, Alan Aitken, Hilda Aitken, Mike Hammond and Ray Swain.
The event was organised by the Renaissance-funded London Museums Hub which works to keep the capital's museums vibrant and thriving.
Mr Brereton said: "Having our efforts recognised in keeping the Markfield Beam Engine and Museum open to the public together with the work in keeping the Beam Engine safe is really appreciated.”
Many of London's 250 museums could not open to the public without the support of volunteers.
Using their skills, Ken and the team have planned events and tours in the area for more than 20 years and increased visitor statistics by an incredible 400 per cent in the last four months.
Jack Lohman, chair of the Renaissance London Board and rirector of the Museum of London said: "I know the whole museum community is very indebted to the hard work that so many volunteers put into their work and this event shows our appreciation for that.
"Thanks to one and all – you are making a huge difference."
