KEEP Britain Tidy campaigners have been congratulated Haringey Council on their efforts to keep the borough's streets litter-free.

Inspectors visited Haringey to give it the once-over and found the council was faring well in the fight against litter, detritus, graffiti and fly-posting.

The findings were revealed at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday night.

Councillor Brian Haley, cabinet member for environment, said: "I'm delighted that the Tidy Britain assessment confirms good performance across the borough.

"Environmental cleanliness is a top priority for the council and something I hope to see continuing to improve during the coming months.

"Our street cleaning and graffiti action teams are to be congratulated for their hard work, and we are determined to keep battling litter and vandalism to make Haringey even cleaner."

The accolade is the second award the council has won for cleanliness.

A Capital Standards survey, which monitors the quality of the environment across London, found Haringey to be the best performing outer London borough for tackling litter.
