A HARRINGAY flat which became a base for crack users and prostitution has been shut down by Haringey police.

The flat in Effingham Road, on the Harringay ladder, had been a concern for neighbours who were frightened and disturbed by the Class A drug use and signs the property was being used for prostitution.

On September 24, 2009, officers raided the house and found clear evidence that crack cocaine was being consumed on the premises.

A Haringey drugs force unit investigation followed and an order permitting the flat to be closed for a period of three months was granted on October 21.

The drug den was shut down hours later.

Detective Sergeant Jason Turkington, of Drugs Focus unit, said: "This address has been causing serious nuisance and disorder to the public and has been linked to class A drug supply, consumption and prostitution.

"As a result of a number of complaints the premises has been closed."
