A SEX attack in Downhills Park earlier this month has prompted police to launch an appeal for information.

The attacker sprung upon a 27-year-old woman as she walked across the Tottenham park at around 7.10am on Sunday, December 6.

He forced the victim to the ground before straddling her with his legs and trying to loosen the zip on her trousers.

The young woman had been heading towards Philip Lane when a man, described as white, short with a shiny forehead and long face, started to follow her.

Alarmed, the victim walked faster and broke into a run with her attacker chasing behind her.

In a fortunate twist, a small white dog interrupted the attack and the victim was able to escape.

Detective Constable Toni James, of the Metropolitan Police's specialist rape unit Sapphire, said she was particularly interested in hearing from anyone that was in the park at around the time of the attack.

She added: "We would especially like to hear from the owner of the small white dog and the woman that was waiting at the bus stop in Philip Lane that asked the victim if she was alright.

"We are doing everything we can to try to apprehend the suspect and local officers regularly patrol the area as part of their daily routine."

The man is believed to be in his mid-30s and around 5ft 5in tall. He was of medium build and wearing a white hooded top, a brown leather jacket and light grey trousers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Toni James on 020 8345 4512. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
