THE MP for Enfield Southgate is holding a public meeting this week on a controversial proposal for a new waste plant on the edge of his constituency.

David Burrowes is holding the meeting on Friday night to discuss North London Waste Authority's plans for the Pinkham Way site.

It has submitted a planning application for a major new waste plant to deal with around a third of the rubbish produced by residents of Barnet, Haringey, Enfield, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Islington, and Camden.

The proposal faces increasing opposition, from an alliance of residents, environmental groups, councillors and MPs including Mr Burrowes, Lynne Featherstone, Lib Dem MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, and Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers.

Mr Burrowes said: "The aim of the public meeting is to make sure the voice of my constituents is heard loud and clear.

“We say 'No to Pinkham Way'.”

However, the authority, which is currently seeking outline planning permission before the specifics of the new plant are agreed, believe it is a necessary step to improve waste management in north London.

The meeting will be held at Broomfield School, starting at 7pm, and is open to the public.
