A family who brought a young girl and a man into the UK from Romania to force them to work as servants will be sentenced today.

Husband and wife Aurel-llie Zlatea, 45, and Alexandra Oaie, 44, who are originally from Romania, were found guilty at Croydon Crown Court yesterday of human trafficking, assault, and neglecting the seven-year-old girl at their home in Wood Green.

The pair plotted to bring the young girl to their house after convincing her mother, who was their cleaner when they lived in Romania, that she would be given a better life.

The couple beat her, made her work in squalid conditions and forced her to perform domestic tasks for free.

The married couple and their 25-year-old son, Marian Neamu, also plotted to bring a 53-year-old man from Romania to the same house, where he was raped, beaten, forced to work without payment, and made to live in a shed at the end of the garden.

The victim was working for the family as a paid electrician in Romania before they took away his mobile phone and his driving license so he could not contact his family.

The cruel pair convinced the man that he owed Zlatea €4,000 and made him do household jobs for the family for free.

He tried to escape but was caught and chained to a concrete post in a cellar where he was beaten.

On October 13 2010 the family told the male victim that they would be bringing him to the UK.

When he arrived in Wood Green, he was forced to sleep in the shed with no heating or blankets and was raped by the couple’s sons Marian Neamu and 23-year-old Florin Zlatea after asking for food earlier that evening.

They locked him in the shed for a number of hours after he was subjected to the sexual assault.

The victim approached the police in March 2011 to explain what was happening to him and the young girl in the Zlatea household.

The police visited the family home on April 1 2011 and found the neglected child.

The girl was immediately taken into care by social services, where she remains, and told the police she had been taken to a “dirty house” where she was beaten by an “awful” woman who forced her to work.

When questioned, Zlatea told police he was the girl’s father and Oaie said she was the product of her husband’s affair with another woman.

A birth certificate, which was given to the couple from the girl’s mother, said Zlatea was the father, but DNA tests proved that the girl was not related to the married couple.

Aurel-llie Zlatea and Oaie were also charged at Croydon Crown Court yesterday with trafficking the man.

Zlatea was also charged with assault.

The son, Marian Neamu, was found guilty of trafficking, assault, rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment.

Florin Zlatea was found guilty of assault, rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment.
