Tottenham Hotspur college 'fantastic news' for Tottenham, according to Haringey Borough Council
Tottenham Hotspur’s plan to open a technical college is “fantastic news” for the borough, according to Haringey Borough Council.
The new Tottenham-based University Technical College will provide specialist sports, science and health education as well as a full curriculum for 14 to 18 year olds.
Spurs announced at the end of the last month that they had received Government approval to open the college in partnership with Middlesex University.
Councillor Alan Strickland, cabinet member for economic development, said: “This is fantastic news that will bring new jobs to Tottenham and equip our young people with vocational skills for their futures.
“We are committed to the major regeneration of Tottenham, creating hundreds of new jobs and homes, and I’m pleased to see some of our ambitions starting to be realised.”
He believes the college is "another step" in making Tottenham a place where people can be proud to live and work.
Daniel Levy, Spurs' chairman, told the Haringey Independent the club is “delighted” the bid had been successful.
A public consultation into the college will be launched once more detailed plans are drawn up by the club.
