Haringey Borough’s second run out of 2013 ended in defeat as Tring Athletic won 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw to progress to the Premier Division Cup semi-finals.

In order to even get the match to go ahead the venue had to be switched to Tring’s Grass Roots Stadium after Coles Park was deemed unfit to play on.

Tring passed up a great opportunity to open the scoring in their first attack when the unmarked Andy Hughes misplaced a header from a free-kick from just a few yards out.

In the 13th minute they did take the lead though, Jack Sunderland heading home at the far post from another set piece slung in from the right.

Debutant Anthony McDonald was unlucky not to equalise when his cross-cum-shot hit the inside of the far post before bouncing out.

Rakim Richards’ close-range header drew a fine save from home keeper Mike Underwood before Boro equalised when Richards slammed home from ten yards.

Parity was short-lived with Tring regaining the lead seconds after the restart when Martin Skinner scored after appearing to handle in the build-up.

Having offered little in the way of an attacking threat, Boro were fortunate to draw level in the dying seconds when Hughes nodded past his own goalkeeper to take the game into extra-time.

The extra 30 minutes was forgettable, though Haringey ought to have made more of the dismissal of Tring goalscorer Skinner.

Cedric Lakole confidently put away Haringey’s first penalty and Erbil Bozkurt came desperately close to saving Tring’s first spot kick.

Richard Worrell crashed Boro’s second against the bar and although Tring fired their second well over the top, Bozkurt had no chance with their third and fourth efforts. Dean Fenton had driven home Boro’s third but Underwood dived well to save Lawrence Constanti’s fourth and when Nick Nicou’s final effort hit the bar it was all over without Tring needing to take their final kick.
