Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a swoop for Atletico Madrid's Belgian international defender Toby Alderweireld, according to the Sunday People.

Aldeweireld, 25, can play at centre-back and right-back and joined last season's La Liga winners from Dutch giants Ajax at the beginning of last term.

The Belgian international, who has been included in Marc Wilmots' squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil, made just 18 starts for Atleti in all competitions.

However, if first-choice centre-back Diego Godin were to leave Atleti, head coach Diego Simone could be reluctant to allow Antwerp-born defender to leave the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
