Southampton are set to renew their interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Andros Townsend, according to the Daily Mirror.

Townsend was the subject of a £10m bid by the Saints earlier in the week, which was rejected by Spurs, but it has now emerged they are prepared to up their offer in an attempt to get their man.

It is unclear whether Mauricio Pochettino sees Townsend as a key part of his plans or not, although with one bid already turned down, it could suggest the England international has a future at White Hart Lane.

New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has made no secret of the fact he is keen to strengthen his squad in the wake of the mass exodus that saw Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren all leave this summer.

One possible stumbling block could be the fact Southampton were not willing to part with Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin – the duo both being subject to bids from Spurs last month.

As for Townsend, the 23-year-old broke through during the 2012/13 season, and despite featuring prominently under Andre Villas-Boas last term, he fell down the pecking order when Tim Sherwood took over before injury curtailed his season.

The proposition of regular first team football may be an attractive proposition for Townsend, particularly as he presumably wants a return to the England fold, but whether he, or Spurs are willing to go through with the deal remains to be seen.
